摘要

Side discharges into open channel flow is of great concern for environmental and hydraulic engineers. For example, most waste water from sewerage treatment plants, or once-through-cooling thermal power plants, is often ejected through side discharges into rivers. Normally, this kind of flow is three-dimensional, turbulent and of a free surface, and is characterised by the formation of the recirculation zone immediately downstream from the jet. Due to the difficulty to simulate spearation flow, side-discharge flow has been a challenging problem for scientists. a large number of recent studies, both experimentally and numerically, have shed light on this kind of flow, such as, Rouse [8], Mikhail et al. [6], Strazisar et al. [9], McGuirk et al. [5], Rodi and Weiss [7] and Demuren et al. [2].
