Consumer Health Information: A Federal Perspective on a Important Aspect of the National Information Infrastructure

People need health information to attain good health and make health care decisions. This paper discusses the transition from print-based to new modes of electronic dissemination of multimedia-based consumer health information. Developed in the context of the federal national information infrastructure initiative, issues presented in this paper relate to the entire enterprise of public and private consumer health information production, delivery and use.
