Bandwidth Management in a Hybrid Fiber Coax Network

摘要

Pacific Bell's Consumer Broadband Network (CBN) is a Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) design capable of responding to varying service demands. CBN is a full service network capable of providing broadcast analog video, MPEG digital video, interactive multi-media, narrowband telephony, ISDN and wideband data (LAN) to the consumer and small business markets. This paper is based upon our experience in the design and construction of the network, which now passes over 80,000 homes, and will pass 500,000 by year end 1995. The paper describes the base architecture and how extensions to that architecture and improvements in transmission techniques are used to satisfy growing demands over tbe life of the network.
