In today's commercial environment around the world, with self-certification by cable manufacturers and material suppliers, and few legislative requirements, it has been very difficult to establish harmonised performance standards within market regions, such as Europe or Asia, let alone on a global basis. Many different test methods, particularly around the issue of fire safety, have evolved to measure individaul components of the total hazards analysis, primarily promoting one material or cable design over another.
