Navigational Risk Analysis on VLCC sailing between Persian Gulf and Chinese ports and the correspondent measures

As the main type of vessel to carry import crude oil in China, the number of VLCC has increased substantially year by year. The fact that more than 30 VLCC which carry import crude oil from the Persian Gulf reach Chinese ports every month by way of Indian Ocean, the Strait of Malacca/Singapore,south of China sea and other complicated sea area,brings a huge threaten to the safety of the oil tanker. Therefore,it seems to be extremely necessary to analysis and study the navigational risk of VLCC sailing between the Persian Gulf and Chinese ports so as to avoid the risks,lay down the correspondent measures and ensure the navigational safety of the vessel. With the sustained and fast development of Chinese economy, the number of crude oil imported to China has increased year by year, and the number in 2007 was more than 0.15 billion tons. As the main type of vessel carrying import crude oil of China, the number of VLCC has also increased substantially year by year and there are more than 30 VLCC carrying crude oil from the Persian Gulf to Chinese ports. Dalian Ocean Shipping Company under the control of COSCO possesses its own VLCC in amount of 7 and 5 VLCC rent from other companies; in 2010 there will be 12 VLCC owned and 10 VLCC rent and these VLCC are mainly used for carrying crude oil imported to China. Therefore,it is extremely necessary to summarize, analysis and study the navigational risk of objective environment where VLCC sails between the Persian Gulf and Chinese ports so as to avoid the risk and ensure the navigational safety.
