Protection from the Hazardous Movements of Machinery

With reference to International Standards and under special consideration of the European Machine Law, there will given an overview on the requirements, how to achieve machine safety in general and how to fulfil the specific requirement, which have to be observed in order to protect human people from the hazardous movements of machinery. The lecture will be sectionalised into 4 chapters: Chapter 1 will be an introduction into some general rules and philosophies of machine safety as well as hazard analysis accordingly ISO 12100. Additionally requirements of the European Community will be explained. Chapter 2: Under reference to ISO 13849 there will be introduced, how safety circuits can be structured under consideration of the different control categories as a result of a risk analysis according to the riskgraph of ISO 13849 - 1. In Chapter 3 the selection and implementation of protective devices will be shown under reference to the corresponding produce safety standards. Special features, fields of application and strengthens as well as weaknesses of the different solutions will be explained. E. g. those of interlocking devices with and without guard locking, two- hand- control devices, safe optoelectronics etc. A further chapter is related to safety of special machine modes (setting up operations etc).
