Quality of service support for recording and playback of MBone sessions in heterogeneous IP/ATM networks

Abstract: Many video and audio sessions are transmitted via theMulticast Backbone (MBone) medium day by day. TheIntegrated Services architecture of the Internet willmake it now possible to transmit and receive thesesessions in a 'guaranteed' quality of service. To allowthis in heterogeneous networks, consisting of, e.g.Ethernet and ATM, an interaction between the QoSarchitectures of the Internet and ATM is necessary.However, they are very different, so mapping them is adifficult task. In this paper, the implementation of aninteraction approach for the QoS architecturesdeveloped for the Internet and for ATM, and theextension of the MBone VCR for recording and playingback MBone sessions in a higher quality, is described.This system allows the QoS supported recording andoff-line playback of MBone session in heterogeneousIP/ATM networks. !24
