As a small part of process industry's daily concerns, the fluid sealing industry has always been reactive to both customers and application specifics. Over time, experienced maintenance and engineering personnel find vendors and products which seem, on the whole, to suit their needs. Rarely do mill personnel consider the fluid sealing industry as holding any promise for reducing overall costs, increasing Mean Time Between Failure's (MTBF), or somehow improving mill outlook. This has led to the production of sealing materials worldwide which mimic those of the competition, save for small differences. The focus has become one of price, not cost, as all suppliers come to be viewed as sellers of conventional, similar material.
