This ruby-colored ball gown, although inspired by the 1950s, has a place in the contemporary market. The gown has a sculptural quality achieved y the draping technique and from studying pictures of period gowns by Christian Dior. A suprlice bodice was draped over a basic strapless shell that is connected to a voluminous skirt accented with a shawl. the shawl can be worn over the shoulders or draped around the skirt to create variety and establish new structural interest. the gown is made of red dupioni silk and is lined in black china silk to give it a bit of an edge for the contemporary market. The skirt is supported by a three-tiered crinoline underskirt. The manner in which light and shadow are reflected from the silhouette as it moves makes it perfect for dancing or promenading.
