Four antique "mudmee" (silk ikat) sarongs from Thailand were the inspiration for this five-piece ensemble (skirt, pants, blouse, vest, and jacket). Just as the original sarongs use an entire rectangle, the objective was to maximize the use of the ikat fabrics and combine the Thai influences into contemporary easy-to-wear Western fashion. One sarong was used for the skirt, another sarong was used for the pants, and two sarongs were used for the jacket. coordinating silk taffeta in burgundy and rust were used for the blouse and as trim on the jacket, vest and blouse. The flared vest is made of a burgundy sheer leno weave linen/rayon blend with rust silk bound edges. The Vee motif on the sarongs is repeated in the yarn and bead embellishments on the vest front and back.
