Measurement and Monte Carlo Calculations of Out-of-Field Organ Doses from IMRT Plans for Head and Neck Involving the Varian Clinac (TRILOGY) and TomoTherapy Hi-Art II System

A number of national and international committees have recently discussed the possibility and necessity of including out-of-field organ dose estimates in treatment planning. This project implemented and tested experimental and Monte Carlo simulation methods for determining out-of-field organ doses at a regional clinic. This study confirms the general trends in out-of-field organ doses that were reported previously by various groups (1).
