A laboratory study on the effect of accelerators (sodium and potassium aluminates, aluminium sulphate and poly-aluminium silicate sulphate (PASS~(circle R)) on the properties of ultra-low cement castables (ULCC) for shotcreting has been conducted. The effect of microsilica addition on the properties of an ULCC accelerated with aluminium sulphate has also been examined. A comparison has been made between sodium tri-poly phosphate (Empiphos) and poly-melamine sulfonic acid (Meladyne) when used as a dispersant within an accelerated ULCC.
