Matrix, Smooth Space and Anti-Oedipus

This paper attempts to elucidate the inter-relationship and interdependence of technology, capitalism, patriarchy, and Oedipus complex along the line of Deleuze and Guattari's philosophy. The focus of this p aper is to discuss how women can reappropriate the capitalist-patriarchal technology, especially communication technologies, to construct a female space in cyberspace; or, rather, to reclaim the matrix, which literally means the body of mother. Examples from Chinese women websites illustrate how women establish virtual communities as well as community informatics. I will also argue that technologies and social system of the Chinese minority women can shed light on the feminist development of communication technology.
