A thin film of Al was electrodeposited on the graphite electrode from the acidic AlCl_3-MEICl room temperature (RTMS) at a constant current of 4 mA/cm~2. The resulted Al-coating graphite electrodes were studied as the negative electrode in a lithium battery using the LiCl buffered AlCl_3-MEICl RTMS. The deposition of Al film on the surface of the graphite was found to suppress the side reaction that occurred at potential more positive than -1.6V and block the co-intercalation of the MEI~+ cation. Therefore, the reversible capacity of graphite was found to increase from 26 to 57% in the first cycle and its' cycling performance improved.
