MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that play important roles in post-transcriptional gene regulation by targeting mRNAs for cleavage or translational repression. Low abundance of some miRNAs and time-and tissue-specific expression patterns lead to the difficulty for experimental identification. In this report, we present a bioinformatic approach for genome sequences prediction of novel miRNAs as well as their targets in Mus musculus. 14 Mus musculus miRNAs were successfully predicted by homolog search approach. The MiPred software prediction results, the stem-loop structure feature analysis and PolII promoter prediction results show that these miRNAs might be true mouse miRNAs, and the potential targets of these miRNAs were detected.
