This paper will highlight the implementation of the patented BridgeWatch® technology in four distinctrngeographic locations in the United States. These locations include Georgia, Tennessee, Iowa, and Idaho.rnEach location has been enabled with the full functionality of the BridgeWatch web-based application, butrneach also has unique custom features ranging from coastal structure monitoring of hurricane storm surge tornsnow melt occurring in the mountainous regions in North West Idaho. The implementation and use ofrnBridgeWatch has provided system users in these locations with improved forecasting that allows fieldrnpersonnel to concentrate their efforts specifically on bridges at vulnerable sites rather than entire countiesrnand drainage basins. When alerts are received by users from BridgeWatch via the electronic mode of theirrnchoice (cell, email, fax, etc.), they can immediately begin monitoring evaluating, and prioritizing specificrnbridges for scour and erosion activities. Since 2001, the U.S. Departments of Transportation have used thernBridgeWatch web-based solution to enable engineers to collectively contribute to more timely and informedrndecision-making. BridgeWatch allows the engineers to be pro-active in protecting the traveling public fromrnthe potentially harmful effects of scour and erosion.
