On Evaluation of Education in the Subject of Mechanical Design in University Education - Students' Score Distribution

One of evaluation method of education is to examine students' not artificial but real score distribution. To judge students' attainment of learning depends on examination question. The best examination question is considered to be that the students' real scores are arranged on the normal distribution curve. The author of this article has assigned his third year students at roughly ten times examinations a year in the subject of mechanical design in his mechanical engineering department of SUT (Science University of Tokyo) . The students' score distributions for the past ten years, 1990~1999, will be correctly introduced in this article. To enforce the students working hard is to work hard a professor. We, university professors, have two duties such as researching and teaching. Achievement of university professors must also be evaluated by teaching. Finally, it is proposed that a shape of students' score distribution curve is considered to be worthy to adopt. Some discussions on obtained score distribution will be developed in this articles.
