Some Problems of Conceptual Design

It is very difficult to introduce some kind of expert system into conceptual design at present, Therefore, in this report, the problems of conceptual design will be addressed, as well as current plans to introduce it into college education and to pervade this area of study into our society. Many modem college students have not acquired the skills requited to think autonomously. For such students, it is necessary to provide an education in small groups based on knowledge engineering, and let them learn design concepts from databases. Patent information provides a valuable resource of information pertaining to successful design and provides a useful insight into the design process. It is a possible to assist vu the development new products by utilizing, the knowledge learnt by previous designers. It is already possible to identify cases of businesses that have developed their products based on such thinking. TRIZ, which is a technique for utilizing patent information from outside ones own field, contains a vast amount of patent data classified according to 40 design characteristics. New products can be developed based purely on this way of thinking. Decision-making, however, needs to be performed by the designers.
