East Asian Approach Toward the Preservation of the Traditional East Asian Architecture

摘要

During-the last century, the idea and approach way of architectural preservation have been, largely, introduced form the West which is based on the understanding of Western tradition of architecture. The meaning and methods of architectural preservation, however, should differ depending on the diverse perceptions of architectures in various cultures. This paper aims to identify why the meaning of architectural preservation of East Asian architecture has to be different from that of the West, and what would be the proper way of approach for the preservation of East Asian architecture.
