Research on Residential Space in Present Shanghai

The characteristic of habitation space in contemporary Shanghai that can be said from the above analysis is that there exist a variety of ways of living that goes on inside, and they are mainly expressed by the distribution of a fundamental life act and the density in space. Especially due to the development of the city and tremendous supply of residential spaces for the past several years, the number of population who had been living under overly high density environment are gradually decreasing. It can be said that the various renovated part of the interior which supported the former high-density state, now beginning to have a new role under present environment. How much one is adjusting to these new environment, has become one of the evaluation axis which classifies the present condition of all ways of living in Shanghai. In the city like Shanghai, where various kinds of housing forms built over span of 150 years still existing together, the relationship between the ways of life and the residential forms are entangled variously and intricately. And it is thought that in the near future, the gap between them will be even more obvious as the number of commercialized residences increase further more. It is possible to say that the people's continuous renewal of functions and spaces, holds the key to the new possibility in future city development.
