Quality Improvement of 60 Steel Billets in Kunsteel

This paper studied the key factors to influence the billet quality of the caster, main schemes included: the mold modification, M-EMS application, arc radius design, casting speed design, tundish design, and protective casting in whole process and so on. The optimization process parameters are proposed by calculation and design. 60 steel has been sampled for the purpose to improve steel quality and the technological parameters of rebuilding caster are the speed -1.85 m/min, M-EMS frequency - 3Hz, E-EMS current -200A. The experiment results show: the composition segregation of 60 steel is improvement than ever, the proportion of central equiaxed grain of the billet gets to 45%, and the billet quality obviously reaches higher over ever.
