In the paper, algorithm of numerical simulation for slab continuous casting process was studied and analyzed, and then a 2D heat transfer mathematical model was established, which has subdivided and reverted to the actual boundary condition. In the model, asymmetry of the air gap between corner and surface middle of the slab is considered. Effect of nozzle arrangement and asymmetry of spray water distribution on heat transfer is also considered at the secondary cooling zone, where the boundary condition is set into four heat transfer modes of spray water, radiation, evaporation and roller. All-purpose simulation software for slab continuous casting was developed with Visual Basic6.0. Simulation of continuous casting process, water calculation, regression of secondary cooling model, data post-processing and analysis of appearance of solidification shell growth in the transverse direction are all gathered in the software. Actual production technology of slab Q235 was simulated. The results indicated that calculation error is all within 2% compared with the measured data, and thereby the accuracy and practicability of the software model was validated.
