The JORC Code contains a mandatory classifi cation system for Mineral Resource and Ore Reservernestimates for public reporting. The classifi cation is a statement of the Competent Person’s confi dencernin the estimate and an attempt to convey that confi dence to the various users of the resource estimate.rnIn general the classifi cation process is either largely subjective, relying on the Competent Person’srnexperience, or relies on statistical measures derived from the estimation process, or is derived from anrnestimated level of confi dence in the outcome. However, the statistical measures may not necessarilyrnrelate to the overall confi dence in the resource or reserve which must take account of the confi dencernin the geological inputs to the estimation.rnIn addition to the traditional deterministic interpretation and estimations adopted by geologists,rnsemi-quantitative techniques are now available to improve the estimation of confi dence whilerncontinuing to involve the Competent Person’s experience in the process. Methods for quantifyingrnconfi dence in mineral resource estimates for advanced projects and operating mines have alsornbeen developed.rnClassifi cation is undertaken primarily as a communication tool between the estimators and thernother stakeholders in the process. A brief examination of the stakeholders’ requirements is included.
