摘要

1 Introduction Given the great influence of globalization, English is often viewed as a language that is indispensable for academic or professional success worldwide. With the worldwide influence of English, the role that the language plays in the social construction of identity cannot be underestimated. Many L2 scholars believe that a foreign language is more than a mere communication code that can be learnt similarly in other academic subjects; instead, it is also part of the individual's personal 'core,' involved in most mental activities and forming an important part of one' s identity (D(o) rnyei, 2005, P. 93).
