THE EIGHTH TEXT RETRIEVAL CONFERENCE (TREC-8)

The eighth Text REtrieval Conference (TREC-8) was held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on November 16-19, 1999. Sixty-six groups including participants from 16 different countries met to discuss their results on the various tasks being evaluated in TREC-8. These included the traditional ad hoc retrieval task, but also tasks in cross-language retrieval, filtering, interactive searching, question-answering, web retrieval and spoken "document" retrieval.
