TF2O-02: THE DEVELOPMENT OF GAS UTILISATION IN INDONESIA AND THE PLANNED INTEGRATED GAS TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

Indonesia has substantial gas reserves which have largely remained undeveloped due to the prevailingrnattitude towards natural gas and the lack of statutory regulation necessary to encourage investment.rnIndustrial growth and decreasing oil production have resulted in the policy to reduce the domestic use ofrntradable fuels by the substitution of non-tradabel fuels, such as natural gas. PT. Perusahaan Gas Negararn(Persero) has been recognised as a vehicle for the realisation of an Integrated Gas Transmission Systemrnrequired to transport natural gas from remote areas to the centres of demand. This paper outlines PGN'srnplans for the development of the Integrated Gas Transmission System and considers a number of key issuesrnwhich need to be addressed to ensure that long term projects can be undertaken on the basis of security andrnconfidence in the future.
