The prospective of interoperability and intercommunity mobility by exploiting Long Term Evolution (LTE) among various wireless communications standard is studied in this paper. The main focus of this research is to discover a method that can amalgamate different access technologies ensuring smooth migration to LTE without trading service continuity and also that maximizes the usage of infrastructure of the existing network. Among the different interoperability metrics, the most essential metric is the latency. In this work, with the aid of NS2 simulator, it is demonstrated that for homogeneous setting, LTE (4G) results in low latency than other wireless generations. From our study it is inferred that handover latency for GPRS and IEEE 802.11b is found to be 4s while for IEEE 802.16e it is 3s. Further, for IEEE 802.16j the handover latency is 1s.
