Modern radars use phased array antennas, which find their application in broadcasting, missile guidance, beam-forming and radars. This paper reviews the principle of adaptive arrays in radars, where the antenna patterns are controlled adaptively by using adaptive algorithms which form the beam in the desired direction and place a null in jammer direction. These algorithms sense the distribution of the external noise and adjust the weight parameter such that the SINR (Signal to interference noise ratio) and detection performance are optimized. The simulations show that results demonstrate the recovery of the desired signal in a noisy environment which comprises of jammers as well.
