摘要

Vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is a new environment in wireless networks that facilitate communication between auto-mobiles. VANET is the most known approach for the intelligent transportation system (ITS) that has the main aim to improve the road safety and provide passengers comfort. Therefore, many researchers are interested more than usual in this area of wireless and mobile communications in order to implement new approaches. The most issues in this field are in providing VANET routing protocols in high speed environment. In this paper, we describe the principal characteristics and discuss the research challenge of topology-based routing in this type of networks. We also compared this kind of routing protocols in VANETs on the basis performance metric in two standards of mac protocols IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.11p using NS2.
