Looking with ideas, not for ideas: Realist constructivism applied to technology-mediated science teaching

The purpose of this paper is to explore the use of technology for teaching the big ideas in science using an imaginative, metaphoric process known as “abduction.” We will report on a project that tested a curricular unit in science and how the use of technology, simulations, and metaphors enabled kids to grasp complex ideas about the phenomena of weather.
