The anti-sebum effect of cosmetics on human facial skin

Sebum is an important indicator for skin condition, and excess sebum secretion would make the skin surface oily and some other problems produced. Here in this article it is meaningful to study the anti-sebum effect of cosmetics on the human facial skin.Thirth young female were selected as the inclusion volunteers. The products were applied on the volunteers' cheek as the test areas. The skin sebum secretion before and after cosmetics application was measured with Sebumeter respectively at the constant tremperature (22±1℃) and humidity (50±5 %) controlled laboratory for the 8 h kinetics study. For the later 3-week home-in-use test, the measurements were taken weekly while the volunteers used the products at home according to standard procedure.The application of products on human facial skin could significantly decrease the skin sebum secretion compared to untreated area (p<0.05) at 8 h of products application. For the Sebumeter measurements on untreated area, an increased trend was found during the 8 h time, which may have resulted from the spontaneous physiological secretion of sebum on facial skin after washing. Whereas on the area treated with products, the Sebumeter levels indicated a high value at 2 h timen and a decrease trend 4 h and 8 h after product application, and the differences to baseline were significant in the statistical analysis (P < 0.05). Additionally, the 3-week using of cosmetics could also decrease the skin sebum secretion compared with the baseline before using (p<0.05). The sebum secretion control would be an important point for skin care other than skin hydration. The skin care of human facial skin should apply proper cosmetics considering of the sebum secretion according to the skin physiological properties, to protect the facial skin.
