32.1: High-Brightness Projection Displays Using Mixed-Mode Twisted-Nematic Liquid-Crystal Cells

摘要

Two new liquid crystal (LC) operation modes are developed for projection and direct-view displays. As 90° twisted nematic (TN) is desirable for normally-white transmissive display, the chiral-homeotropic (or inverse TN) exhibits normally-black. As mixed-mode TN (MTN) is designed for normally-white reflective display, the inverse MTN shows normally-black.
