From Living Culture to Eco-Culture: Strategies of Adaptive Planning for Wetland Aquaculture Landscape Based on Huaihe River Valley in China

Wetland aquaculture landscape in China has a combination of multi-functions, such as ecological, economical, as well as cultural oriented etc.However, influenced by traditional concept, the function of aquaculture was only focused on its products and profits, therefore, some disastrous consequences did occur in the past not only in China but also in other countries of the world.It has been noticed that wetland aquaculture landscape in Huaihe River Valley of China is at risk by its unsustainable environments due to large quantity of nutrient wastes discharged from its surroundings.How to reverse or stop this deteriorating ecosystem without destroying the unique aquaculture in this region is a rather difficult subject.The aim of this study was to build a harmonious coexisted environment between human and nature through sustainable wetland aquaculture landscape.The concept of eco-culture was used in landscape planning and design instead of living culture.After reviewed the characters of wetland aquaculture landscape and current circumstances of this region, three issues and six strategies were proposed to repair the injured ecosystem, reinforce the development of aquaculture and other industries, and revive the local culture as well.
