Tsinghua University Architecture Digital Library (THADL) is a small but comprehensive project with main goal to study the theories, methods and key techniques in digital library, and to pave the way for constructing future large-scale digital library. This paper presents an efficient architecture to develop THADL system based on CORBA, agent, and XML. THADL provides key services to protect, search, store, and exhibit the digital art treasures on the Internet. The solution to THADL interoperability and the information model in THADL are proposed. The digitalization method of Chinese ancient architecture is provided to preserve and manage most kinds of scarce and valuable materials of Chinese ancient architecture. A new metadata specification-THADL Metadata 1.0 based on Dubin Core is established for marking and describing the digital materials in THADL.
