The effect of oxygen in molten iron on wettability between molten iron and MgAl_2O_4 substrate was investigated by the sessile drop method at 1833K as a basic study in order to solve the interactions between molten iron and refractory. For the study, the oxygen concentration of molten iron was adjusted by adding Fe_2O_3 powders of a prescribed amount to the iron specimen. The contact angle decreased with increasing oxygen concentration. There was the FeO-MgO phase between MgAl_2O_4 substrate and solidified iron with oxygen concentration of 0.076mass%. These interfacial phenomena contribute to the decrease of contact angle with increasing oxygen concentration.
