Synthesis, characterization and electrical studies of 2-hydroxyacetophenone-biuret-formaldehyde terpolymers

Terpolymers (2-HABF) have been prepared by the condensation of 4-hydroxy-acetophenone (2-HA) and biuret (B) with formaldehyde (F) in the presence of 2M HCI as a catalyst. Four different stoichiometric terpolymers have been synthesized by taking different molar ratios of 2-hydroxyacetophenone, biuret and formaldehyde as (1:1:2), (2:1:3), (3:1:4) and (4:1:5). The terpolymers were purified by suitable methods. Therpolymer resin composition has been determined on the basis of their elemental analysis. The number average molecular weights (Mn) of these terpolymers were determined by conductometric titration in non-aqueous media. The viscosity measurements carried out in DMF indicate normal behaviour. IR, electronic and H NMR spectra were studied to elucidate the structure. Electrical property of these terpolymers have been studied over wide range of temperature. The structure of the terpolymers has been established by analytical and spectral data.
