A method for reducing the directivity of a source wavelet of an air gun by means of optimizing the spatial distribution of the air gun, belonging to the field of air gun source optimization and design. The law of the influence of the spatial distribution of air guns on a ghost wave and an interference trapped wave is studied, and on this basis, an evaluation criterion for the degree of concentration of air gun distribution in a test line direction is provided. Joint optimization in a horizontal direction and a depth direction achieves a design scheme in which an effective frequency bandwidth and an effective incident angle are obviously better than those of a conventional horizontal source. The directivity of a source wavelet of air guns can be reduced.
