Retting.-In a process for obtaining fibres from plants of the genus agave or yucca, and like amaryllidaceae or dracaeneae, wherein the material may be stored any convenient time, the leaves or patals are subjected to an accelerated drying in the open air or by artificial means. The material with water content reduced to about 7 per cent may be stored for a year or more without rotting, and may be treated for the separation of the fibres by first softening and then decorticating.
