The adenosine deriv. of formula (I) is new: (I) may be the 2s or 2R antipodes or the corresp. racemate. (I) lower blood lipoprotein levels and, independently of this effect, have other cardiac and circulatory activities viz. lower serum levels of free fatty acids and triglycerides, give strong and prolonged increase in coronary flow; increase O2 content of the coronary sinuses without altering arterial blood pressure or cardiac frequency; inhibit thrombocyte aggregation and have fibrinolytic activity. They are also intermediates for other pharmaceuticals. The usual oral dose is 0.1-10, pref. 0.5-5 mg./kg./day. The separate optical antipodes are more active than the racemate in increasing coronary flow and oxygen content. They are used in human or veterinary medicine.
