The machine has a casing (11) which contains a rotating cylinder block (15) in which pistons (16) reciprocate axially. The ends of the pistons press on the rotating cage (19) of a thrust ball bearing (20) the stationary cage of which is held in the swashplate (1). The swashplate tilts about an axis (2) perpendicular to the machine shaft (21) and its inclination determines the piston stroke and therefore machine throughput. The swashplate carries a radial arm (3) which has a spherical bearing (4) on its end. The arm with its bearing projects into a slot (5) in the servomotor piston (7) which moves axially in a cylinder (8) at one side of the housing (11). This gives a volume adjusting mechanism which occupies little space and is economical to manufacture.
