Allyl-diethyl-acetonitrile (hydrolyses to diethylallylacetamide - from diethylacetonitrile and sodium (bis (trimethyl-silyl)-amide) and reaction of product with allyl chloride

A method for the prepn. of allyl diethylacetonitrile (I) by reacting diethylacetonitrile (II) with sodium (bis-(trimethylsilyl)-amide) (III) in an aprotic solvent to give diethylacetonitrile sodium (IV). Cpd. (I) on hydrolysis gives diethylallyl acetamide used as a sedative and hypnotic.
