Zircon colours prodn. - from aq. sodium zirconium silicate suspension and mine ral acid by reaction in free fall, preventing corrosion

In the prodn. of zircon colours by reacting aq. Na-Zr silicate (I) suspensions, opt. contg. colouring additives (II) and/or mineralisers (III), with mineral acids (IV) to produce a crude colour (V), followed by calcination, the aq. suspension and (IV) are mixed without coming into contact with a boundary wall and reacted during free fall to produce (V), before calcination. The prods. are used widely for colouring ceramic glazes and compsns. This method of mixing is simple and avoids the problems of corrosion and erosion occurring when small mixers and high turbulence are used.
