Dipeptides are of formula (I) and their acid addn. salts. (where R1,R2=same or different H or 1-3C alkyl or together form a second bond; R3=H or 1-3C alkyl, Z=-NH, OH -NH-CO-, -S- or - -O-, R4,R5=same or different H or 1-3C alkyl). They have similar activity to that of pyroglutanylhistidylprolinamide (thyrotropine (TRH) liberating hormone) but much longer actig. The relationship between its CNS stimulating activity and its endocrine activity is different and superior to that of TRH liberating hormone and it is a administered orally or parenterally as a psychostimulant or antidepressive.
