A group of regenerative blast furnace wind heaters are operated alternately during specific times in which heating occurs followed by blowing, the amt. of wind held constant and its temp. adjusted by mixing hot and cold air according to a desired value (1); more cool air is then added to reach a second desired temp. (2) at which the blast is fed into the furnace. During the short time redn. of temp. (2), temp. (1) is raised and then a cold air blast is added to obtain the desired temp. (2). This process permits the blast temp. to be lowered for short times without impairing the operational safety of the plant). Very accurate control of the amt. and temp. of the blast is obtd.
