Reading device for data words on ledger card - reads words by magnetic heads and applies contents to processing unit via registers

A reading device is for data words on a ledger card. The data words are written in series on at least one magnetic strip on the card. At least two magnetic heads read in parallel bits of data words written and uniformly distributed in the same number of closely adjacent tracks on the magnetic strip. The read out bits are recorded for each magnetic head in a first register and counted by a control counter which trips at the end of each word the transmission of the bits to a second register. A common register control reads out the content of all second registers and applies it in a specified order to a processing unit when each second register is filled.
