The railway points actuating mechanism consists of a support plate (1) centrally situated between the rails and screwed to adjacent sleepers (15, 16), with a cover plate (21) protecting the actuator. Operating links (3, 4) attached to each moving rail (11, 12) by swivel pins are terminated at their inner ends in fishtail shaped plates (23, 24) which can slide to and fro over a central cam fixed to the support plate (27). The longer projections on the other side of the bolt heads (24) can slide over a cam profile (31) in a draw-bar catch plate (33) or engage with slots (28, 29) in this plate. Operation of the draw-bar (36) pulls first one then the other of the two moving rails to one side or the other so that through the action of the cam and slots the mechanism is fully locked in the required position.
