The electrode consists of powder surrounded by a sleeve and with compsn. by wt.:-0.5-1.8% Al, Ti, Zr, and/or V as grain refiners; 0.01-1.8% B and 2.5-5.5% Mo for retarding the ferrite-pearlite transformation; 11.8-17.6% FeTi, FeV, FeMo, FeCr, Mn, Ni, W, and/or Cu, to suppress bainite formation; and max. 0.5% carbon. The powder is pref. surrounded by a tubular ferrous alloy sleeve forming an electrode wire. One pref. compsn. is 2.8-4% Ni, 2.6-3.8% FeMo, 2.5-3.7% FeCr, 1.6-2.4% FeTi, 1.6-2.4% FeSi, 0.9-1.5% Mn, 0.9-1.5% Cu, 0.8-1.2% CaF2, 0.8-1.2% Fe3O4, 0.45-0.75% FeV, 0.5-0.9% Si, 0.01-0.03% B, 0.3-0.5% C, rest Fe. Used for the welding of large workpieces which are difficult to heat treat after welding, e.g. the forks for forklift trucks.
