The mine gallery lining system for securing arches (1) made of channel section, uses a structure (6) forming a working surface which is advanced as the arches are added. This carries a telescopic arm (10) which swings about a hinge point (9) at the leading edge of the surface to lift the sections up to the roof. This action is controlled by two pairs of cylinders (12, 13) which swing eccentrically about the hinge point as their pistons extend and retract. The pistons of the outer pair (12) travel inwards as the arm (10) swings downwards while the pistons of the inner pair travel outwards. This mechanism is mounted on a turntable (7) which is swung about a vertical axis (8) by another pair of control cylinders (16).
