FROM AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF A WATER-SOLUBLE COPPER SALT CONTAINING A WATER-SOLUBLE BORON COMPOUND, THE COPPER COMPONENT IS PRECIPITATED, AT THE SAME TIME AS THE BORON COMPONENT, IF IT IS PRESENT, WITH AN ALKALINE SUBSTANCE CHOSEN FROM ALKALINE CARBONATES AND BICARBONATES AS PRECIPITANT AGENT; B. CARBON GAS IS ARRIVED IN AN AQUEOUS DISPERSION OF A SELECTED ZINC COMPOUND AMONG THE ZINC OXIDE AND HYDROXIDE, CONTAINING A HYDROSOLUBLE BORON COMPOUND, TO CONVERT THE ZINC COMPOUND INTO BASIC ZINC CARBONATE AND PRECIPITATE THE BORON COMPONENT AT THE SAME TIME IF IT IS PRESENT; AND C. A MIXTURE OF THE SOLID PRODUCTS OBTAINED IN A AND B IS CALCINATED IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALUMINA PRECURSOR COMPOUND. /P P USE OF THIS CATALYST, PARTICULARLY FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF METHANOL FROM A MIXTURE D 'CARBON AND HYDROGEN OXIDES.
