The automatic gate control has a plate (1) ahead of the gate which is depressed by the passage of the vehicle to operate a piston cylinder device (2). This is coupled to a second piston cylinder device (3) initiating opening of the gate via a buffer reservoir (4) for slowing the movement of the gate. The plate (1) is returned to the initial position after passage of the vehicle by a set of springs, the resulting resetting of the hydraulic circuit causing the gate to be re-closed. The buffer reservoir (4) incorporates an adjustment screw.
